Medical statistic unit of the National Cancer Institute maintains all the hospital statistics, Indoor Morbidity & Mortality data and patients medical records ect.

The computerized patients’ information system used since 2006 was designed for collection, retrieval, and analysis of data of patients registered at National Cancer Institute. The system can generate the cancer statistics according to the age, sex, topology, morphology, as classified in the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) ninth revision.

During the last three years (2008, 2007, 2006) a total of 111377 patients were admitted at NCI for continuation of treatment and investigations. The male female distributions of inward patients were 42.7% and 57.2% respectively. About 86.7% patients were adult and 13.2% were children.

The top three malignancies among inward male were cancers of oral cavity, leukaemia, and malignant neoplasm of lymphoid, haemotopoietic and related tissue, whereas in females they were cancer of breast, female genital organs and cervix.

Out of 10725 new patients registered during the year 2007, total of 7200 patients were identified as malignant and continue treatment at NCI.The distribution of male and female were 44.5% and 55.5% respectively. The top three malignancies among the males were carcinoma of bronchus & lung, oesophagus and prostate, whereas in females were breast, cervix, and thyroid gland.
