The NCI is largest Hospital in Sri Lanka, which offers specialized treatment for all types of cancers. It helps to identify cancers in about 10,000 new patients, and does the follow up treatment for nearly 30,000 patients per year. The daily number of patients on in-ward treatment is on the average of 750.
There is all supportive care, such as, surgical intensive care, medical care, pain management, physiotherapy, speech therapy and counseling which is necessary immediate after treatment.
The word Cancer is pronounced with dread as it is considered by the public at large as incurable and that death is inevitable form it, hence, patients afflicted with a cancer are often depressed and needs the compassion and care of the Counseling unit and patient friendly staff together, to alleviate the anxiety and the depression of the patient. |
