The commissioning of the Linear Accelerator coincides with the 50th anniversary of the National Cancer institute of the Sri Lanka. This is the first of this kind of sophisticated machine in the South Asian region which provide service completely free of charge. The Linear Accelerator is a sophisticated radiotherapy machine which provides precise and accurate focused radiation to malignant tumors. It will significantly improve the quality of radiological treatment of cancer patient of whole country. The cost of the Linear Accelerator was 230 million rupees. (A video clip)   2. The “DEYATA KIRULA” national development exhibition was held at BMICH for the 3rd succession, from 4th of February to 9th of February 2009. National Cancer Institute arranged an exhibition stall to educate the people about early detection of common cancers, and the services provided by the Hospital. Specimens of common malignant tumors were displayed and leaflets distributed among the people to increase awareness for early detection.
